About our lodge
One of London's older masonic Lodges, founded in November 1876, the Earl of Carnarvon is named after the Pro Grand Master of the day and bears his coat of arms.
'Our' Earl of Carnarvon was the father of the Egyptologist who was involved with Howard Carter.
We have four meetings a year: two in Freemason’s Hall, on Great Queen Street, and two in Aldgate.

History of the lodge

Henry Howard Molyneux (1831–1890), 4th Earl of Carnarvon, was Pro Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of Freemasonry in England and Wales, from 1874 to 1890. The Pro Grand Master is the representative of the Grand Master when he is unable to attend meetings. In this portrait he is wearing the regalia of a pro grand master along with the collar and breast star of a Knight of the Order of St Patrick (KP), one of the main chivalric orders in the United Kingdom.
